Just 8 miles away is Swaffham, an elegant town once the IN place for folk of the 18th century. The market place still has Georgian buildings and a domed rotunda. The Assembly rooms were the centre of society in these times.

The town legend is of the "Pedlar Of Swaffham" who went to London and was about to throw himself off London Bridge when a stranger dissuaded him and related a dream in which he saw buried treasure in a distant village. The pedlar recognised the place as his own garden so he went home and dug up two pots of gold. The pedlar is now the towns symbol.
