Description In 1963 the "Thetford Engineering Company" was founded in the village Thetford in the USA. In 1964 this company moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. Until the present day Thetford Corporation is located here. The company expanded rapidly and the first European establishment was opened in 1971 in the United Kingdom.
Since 1973 the European head office is located in Etten-Leur, The Netherlands. This is where toilets are assembled and the toilet additives and accessories are produced. Apart from the main office in The Netherlands, there are European sales offices in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Sweden. Moreover Thetford is represented by agents in Italy, Spain, Portugal and the Czech Republic.
The rapid expansion of the company went hand in hand with the development of new sanitation products. It all started with a slide action valve for holding tanks, right now Thetford has a wide range of sanitation products: portable toilets, permanent toilets, Cassette toilets, toilet additives and accessories like service hatches and cleaning products.
In 1997 Thetford Corporation acquired Norcold. Norcold is an important player in the market for absorption refrigerators in North America. Mid 2002 Thetford started producing absorption refrigerators in Europe as well. The production of our European absorption refrigerators takes place in a new factory in Etten-Leur, The Netherlands. This building is situated next to the building where the sanitation products are produced. With the introduction of the absorption refrigerator range, Thetford is experiencing substantial growth. This substantial product range expansion fits the strive to become a more important player in the caravan- and motorhome component market.
